About Dr. Allen

Dr. Allen is a lifelong Wisconsin resident, born and raised in Wisconsin Rapids. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin Medical School in 1984, and served a medical internship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His Ophthalmology residency training was completed at the Medical College of Wisconsin Eye Institute.

Dr. Allen's specialty interests include refractive surgery and cataract surgery. He has performed thousands of suture-less cataract surgery procedures. He has also performed over 25,000 vision correction procedures including over 20,000 LASIK procedures.

In 1994 Dr. Allen was selected to participate in the FDA monitored clinical trials of the Chiron Technolas excimer laser (now Bausch & Lomb). He was therefore one of a select group of physicians in the country performing laser vision correction prior to FDA approval. This allowed Dr. Allen to perform laser vision correction in 1994, several years before the vast majority of surgeons, who were required to wait for FDA approval of the excimer laser. Dr. Allen is now in his twelfth year of providing laser vision correction and has experience with the VISX, Bausch and Lomb, and Nidek lasers. Dr. Allen was also a member of the Chiron Keratorefractive Study Group. He participated in the Prospective Evaluation of Radial Keratotomy, a national multi-center study.

Dr. Allen has been board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology since 1990 and belongs to numerous professional organizations. Dr. Allen has served as Medical Director for Eye Health Network, Eye Care of Wisconsin, Wisconsin Eye Network, Lucent Laser Centers, and Great Lakes Vision Correction Centers.

Despite extensive micro-surgical experience, Dr. Allen still enjoys practicing comprehensive ophthalmology. Dr. Allen enjoys hiking, fishing, travel, and participates in multiple sports.

At Allen Eye Care, the entire staff is committed to making your experience an enjoyable one! We look forward to caring for you in the near future!!
