How to Choose a LASIK Doctor
Choosing the right LASIK doctor (refractive surgeon) is very important. Certainly you will need to meet him or her face-to-face before committing to surgery. However you can screen potential doctors with the following criteria:
1. LASIK Experience Matters:
Being a good cataract surgeon does not necessarily translate in to being a great refractive surgeon. Choose a surgeon who has performed over 10,000 lasik procedures. What a physician doesn't know can hurt you!
2. Choose a LASIK surgeon who performs 100 LASIK procedures per month.
The occasional refractive surgeon may not be as proficient as a specialist who performs LASIK regularly.
3. Choose a Doctor who offers custom LASIK.
Paying only $299 per eye for a laser that doesn't use an eye tracker or wavefront technology will be a decision you may regret the rest of your life. You deserve the best!
4. Choose a Doctor who has performed LASIK for over five years.
You deserve a doctor who has a long history of managing complex and rare LASIK conditions.
5. Choose a Doctor who will see you pre-operatively and post-operatively.
If you have a question, you will feel comfortable knowing that it will be answered by a very experienced surgeon.
If you use these screening criteria you will be selecting only highly qualified surgeons. Your personal meeting with the LASIK surgeon will allow you to select the one whom you trust the most, whom you feel the most comfortable with.
I hope that doctor is me.
