YAG Laser Capsulotomy

or Posterior Capsulotomy

YAG Laser Capsulotomy is a treatment for capsular opacity. During cataract surgery the cloudy lens material is removed but a thin clear capsular bag is left in place to hold the new intraocular lens implant. Months to years later this capsular bag can become cloudy and interfere with your vision.

The treatment for capsular opacity is a YAG laser capsulotomy. This painless outpatient procedure uses laser light to vaporize an opening in the center of the capsule allowing clear vision to return.

What Will I Experience?

You will receive dilating and anesthetic drops. You will experience no pain. A special focusing lens will be applied to your eye. You will hear a clicking sound and see a flashing light. The laser treatment will last approximately one minute. Your vision will be blurred for several hours and you will see more "floaters" for several days. You may resume normal activities within 24 hours.
